Bare minimum camera with functionality
Strengths: Price, 8MP, compact
Weakness: Nonintuitive menus, competitors may have superior choices
This camera is a modest, entry level model in the Nikon line and it certainly gets the job done. However, I also recently purchased a Canon A570 IS for $158 (compared with $130 for the L18), and the Canon is incredibly versatile, has image stabilization, and has a 4x optical zoom. Nikon Camera and Warranty Stinks
Strengths: Good price for cheaply designed camera
Weakness: Bad screen design, bad low light performance
LCD went bad after 45 days. Returned to Nikon for warranty service. They said it was damaged, it was NOT, and wanted over 100.00 to repair. Nikon warranty stinks. Stay away from Nikon.

Perfect and compact camera at a minimum price
Strengths: Compact size, resolution, 3" LCD, 32 MB internal memory, and ITS PRICE!
Weakness: Usage is not that convenient!
I purchased this camera to upgrade my current Canon PowerShot A400 digital camera. Since I only purchased big name-brand cameras for better quality, this Nikon camera does take very nice picture, Nikon standard, at this price.
