Strengths: Great for recording instruments. Pickup pattern can be set to 90 or 120 degrees for recording instruments distant or near. Battery life indicator. 1.5m (5 ft.) cord. Durable.
Weakness: 100 – 15,000 Hz. Not really a weakness, as this mic sounds excellent and the price is right. There are mics with wider frequency range but they also cost more.
I use this mic for piano recitals and get excellent sounding results. The sound is realistic and the stereo imaging is very good. It feels durable and can probably survive being dropped. Combine it with a MD recorder that has mic input and it’s perfect for personal recording sessions on a budget. I highly recommend it.
Strengths: Surprisingly even response from a Sony product! The mic is not colored, so I find it my main microphone to take to concerts to tape to my minidisc recorder.
Weakness: Plastic housing...but it hasn't broken yet. Frequency response doesn't go down to 20MHz (the general standard). Bulky size could be an issue when taping concerts.
Bang for the buck, this microphone is explosive. It rivals microphones twice the price (I paid $75). I have been recording for about four years and find this my main microphone of choice when taping concerts that don't require "hidden" microphones. If you've already invested hundreds into a high quality DAT/MD recorder, I'd recommend a better microphone to fully utilize the available frequencies...
Strengths: none
Weakness: many
Bought it for Class Room Lecture recording for my Wife. Plug it into the Sony Mini Disc Player/Recorder, MZ-8xx. I did the recording in my quiet bed room with normal and raised voice like in the class room environment. It recorded, but when I play it back it was very faint. I can bearly hear anything. Plug it in to my laptop mic and tried recording it. Same thing. It's probably good for other...
Strengths: Great Mike for the Price, 2nd one I've owned
Weakness: sometimes the highs are a bit bright
Excellent microphone for the price. This is the second one I have owned and I would not hesitate to recommend it to other folks. Sometimes the highs are a bit bright for my taste
Strengths: portability and clarity of sound
Weakness: the stand is a little wobbley
This is the second time I have purchased this microphone. I re-bought it after 7 years of consistent use in a vocal studio. (The first died of over-use) Until now, it was used primarily with a sony mini-disc recorder which, I love! The sound quality is very good, especially considering the size and price. I would occasionally get feedback in extreme ranges (high C's etc.) but overall I am very...

Good microphone at sub-$100 price range
Strengths: Good for instrumental recording, great accessory for MD/DAT, good battery life (with regular AA battery),
Weakness: The plastic casing, battery compartment and stand look very cheap, range is only 100-15,000hz
I used this microphone togehter with minidisc player (MZ-RH1) primarily for recording piano recitals, and the results are overall quite satisfactory. The windscreen functions well to filter out any air movement (I set the mic up in a room with strong fan/AC). The recording sounds clear and crisp with no noise pickup. The battery life is very good: battery is still running strong after >50 hrs of...
