Excellent Tool

Strengths: Connectivity options. Integrated power. Price.

Weakness: Could use a travel pouch.

This is a great tool to have for anyone that deals with building computers. Very simple way to connect SATA or IDE drive and get data from them. Integrated power is a very nice feature and allows to give power to either type of drive. I tried it with a Western Digital SATA drive and Windows XP and was recognized immediately and worked flawlessly.

FollowUP:Strengths: Its pretty tiny and does a lot...

Strengths: Its small, self powered and simple to use.

Weakness: Could use an on-off switch and IDE/sata activity LED.

Update, I tried this adapter with a maxtor 80gb hdd. First connect the IDE adapter to the drive. Next, plug in the AC power cord into the power brick. Then, plug in the power connector into the drive. Wait 20 seconds. Finally, plug in the USB cable into your PC. If you can, go DIRECT into a USB 2.0 port ON THE MOTHERBOARD. Do not use front panel USB. Lastly, I tried this adapter with a 2.5 inch...

works as promised.

Strengths: one small device connects 3.5" or 2.5 IDE or 3.5 SATA device to a computer.

Weakness: none really. manual could be a little bit more detailed.

this adapter works just fine. i tested the device with desktop hard drives and laptop drives. manual could be a little bit more detailed. and SATA cable more sturdy. good device to have

Does the job

Strengths: Works as its supposed to.

Weakness: None so far.

After reading the first review I tested the SATA transfer. Moved over 20 gig of data on drives with multiple partitions without any errors. Also used the device to recover data off a failing laptop drive. Again it worked nicely.

The little engine that could.

Strengths: Its pretty tiny and does a lot of things.

Weakness: System freezes, hangs explorer.exe, dvd drives do not show up properly or at all.

I am testing this on a custom build system. Win XP Pro sp2, AMD Athlon 2700+, Asus A7V8X-X with 512mb of DDR. While it successfully wrote data to a 8gig spare hdd, using a secure erase app to kill the data caused a Windows Delayed Write Failed error. Froze My Computer. I unplugged the usb cable and everything went back to normal. Second test, Lite on DVD writer. That was successful, it shows in...

SATA not working, IDE good.

Strengths: Portability.

Weakness: SATA portion not working out of the box.

Tried 2 different PCs and 2 different SATA hardrive but still the SATA didn't work(too many errors). IDE portion for 2.5 and 3.5 inch hard drive works fine.

Sabrent USB 2.0 cable

Strengths: Very easy to use once you figure it out.

Weakness: No written manual. I wanted to test a laptop hard drive and it had an adapter on it. Pulled it off and it worked fine. All thother drives I have tested worked fine.

Over all for the price and what I wanted it for (testing multiple. drives) this works just great. Keep the drive cool while testing. Works great on cd rom devices also.
