THE GOOD: Compact and attractive; above-average low-light video. THE BAD: Not terribly great lens; occasionally awkward design. THE BOTTOM LINE: You can tell where Sony cut corners on this compact, flash-based HD camcorder. While its decent, there are better options for the money than the Sony Handycam HDR-CX100.

TopSony CX 100 Camcorder Review
Sony's Handycam CX100 is an able flash memory camcorder that delivers high quality video and an attractive feature set. It's a bulkier and boxier than other flash camcorders on the market, but is very responsive and starts up rapidly. Overall a good value at the price.

SONY Handycam Exmor HDR-CX100
Strengths: Great HD video quality. Really compact and lightweight. Convenient combination of the internal and flash memory recording media. Fast start-up time. Price.
Weakness: Expensive Memory stick PRO Duo media. No image stabilization.
I have been waiting for a HD camcorder worth investing money that could provide a REAL image quality improvement compare to my 3-year old digital camcorder. Other considerations were 1)price 2)size 3)ability to burn footage on regular DVD, to be sent to significant others.
In July 2009 I purchased SONY HDR-CX100 from Buydig and really love this cute HD camcorder. I can take it with me everywhere because it is smaller than a soda can. Shooting video is a lot of fun, given very fast starting time and responsiveness, and intuitive software. The biggest surprise was the quality of video, taken either outdoors or in a well-lit room. It is simply breathtaking, when viewed directly from the camcorder on a wide-screen TV via the HDMI connection. Absence of image stabilization, probably required to make this camcorder affordable, was much less of a problem than I expected.
According to the manual, high-resolution footage can be transferred on regular DVD media and then played on any AVCHD-compatible blue-ray player. Alternatively, resolution could be down-graded and the footage stored and played on DVD player. I have not tried neither of these important features and cannot comment yet.
In summary, SONY HDR-CX100 high-definition camcorder met and exceeded all of my expectations. It is worth every penny and provides significant improvement of video quality compare to my regular definition digital camcorder.
