Versitile baby gate/Play pen.

Strengths: Can be a play pen or a gate.

Weakness: Difficult to move panels and sometimes difficult to set up so it doesn't fall.

When I saw this gate, it was love at first sight for me. I knew I had to have it because my 8 month old has been going into the kitchen trying to eat dog food. The area I need to gate off is the entry way from the living room and it's about 7 feet across. The Superyard gate seemed like an answer to my prayers.

When I received it, it was ready to use out of the box. The first thing I noticed was that it was difficult to open it up. The joints of the gate make creaking/cracking noises and sometimes lock up. I pulled and tugged nervous I was going to break it and finally got it set up. When I stepped back I realized that my "playpen" was shaped nothing like the picture but instead resembled a hexagon on drugs. Reading the directions, it has illustrations that show how to set it up like a barrier gate. You need to make sure that some of the joints are bent because it will not stand up if it's just one straight gate. Okay, that makes sense. It took me about 5 minutes to get it to the point where the gate blocked the entry way but did not tip over.

I have had this gate for about 3 weeks now and use it probably 5 times a week. The playpen is a decent size (larger than a pack and play!), however my son is just not happy being confined in it, since he's not used to playpens, and my 3 year old daughter learned very quickly that she can lift it up and crawl under it to get in and out. I have started to master how to get it set up quickly without tipping over. It has a little bit of a learning curve to it and was more difficult than I thought it would be. The creaky joints are still a little stiff to open and close. This is understandable so the gate doesn't shift on its own. It just scares me that I feel like I'm going to break the thing when I close it.

After you get used to these two minor setbacks, it really is a great gate and you can also expand it by buying additional panels. I'm very happy with my purchase and give it 5 stars!

Pretty good solution for hard-to-baby-proof areas

Strengths: Can be used as a play-area or a gate, sturdy, adjustable to many different shapes to suit your baby-proofing needs

Weakness: Joints can be stiff and hard to adjust, cost more than we wanted to spend on a gate

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this product. We bought it because our son was starting to crawl and we couldn't keep him away from the computer (which is in a common room). It worked for a while, but as soon as he started pulling himself up to standing (which wasn't long after crawling), he'd constantly pull himself up onto the side and whimper. We began using it as a wall to block off the computer/TV area instead, which works pretty well. The trouble is, he still pulls himself up to standing on it, even when he's outside of it! It is nice that it can be shaped so many different ways, however, and it could have many good uses depending on your intent.
