Great accurate Pedometer!

Strengths: Accuracy, Memory, Aerobic steps counter, Ability to put in pocket or purse, etc

Weakness: Sometimes there is a slight delay in count. If in purse, bag, etc you need to ensure it doesn't lie flat (or less than 60 degrees from horizontal).

Overall, I highly recommend this pedometer. It is very accurate. In fact, you can hold it in your hand and look at it as you walk. When I did this, it was right in-sync with my steps. I also went for a longer walk and counted the steps and it was within a few steps. I clipped this pedometer and my old under $10 pedometer on (which I knew was inaccurate, I thought by around 50%) but I found that my old one was counting at almost double the Omron, so I was really only getting in half the steps the old one listed.

You can clip this on your belt, wear it around your neck, put it in a pocket, or even in your bag. However, The pedometer works best when in an upright position. It will work pretty well on it's side or even upside down, but it must be perpendicular to the ground. It can slant slightly, but not more than 30" from vertical. This means, if it is in your pocket or purse, you should clip it to the side, and you can't have really baggie pockets or floppy purses. All in all, it's still a great deal not have to have it constantly clipped to your side!!

Finally, there is sometimes a lag in it counting steps. This is particularly noticeable if you are looking at it! It does tend to "catch-up" and jump ahead close to the right number, so I don't think it affects the accuracy too much.

Overall, I highly recommend this pedometer!!!

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Ease of use, accuracy.

I have had several pedometers, but I feel for the money, this is by far the best and most accurate. I like the aarobic step aspect that this pedometer offers also.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Good system you really have to work to get your steps in.

this is a very good pedometer. My other pedometers tend to count steps when you shuffle your feet or just remain stationary. This pedometer does not. You have to work for your step count. I believe that it gives you a honest count of your daily steps.

Partner with the OMRON digital Pedometer - a real...

Strengths: Easy to program and to wear. Good memory features. The automatic changing to next day is great.

Weakness: None to date except for small print on the units of measurement words - i.e. steps, aerobic, miles, minutes. The numerical representations are bold and good.

Omron is a great name in many medical pieces of equipment so I did not hesitate to make this purchase. It is well designed, easy to wear, and lightweight.I have used many types of pedometers in my nutrition counseling presentations. This one I could recommend without hesitation and it is affordable.

Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: digital readout

Weakness: size

The unit can be used in multiple positions, so it can be carried in your pocket. That means my husband will use his. Otherwise, he wouldn't, because he wouldn't wear it on his belt.
The digital readout is really great. Easy to read.
It's a little big & bulky for wearing on a ladies waistband, but that's the only way I can wear it, since I don't often have pockets to put it in.

Pedometer particulalry accurate with level walking

Strengths: Versatile - works in pockets and on belt. Seems to measure steps accurately on level surfaces.

Weakness: Does not differentiate between normal stride lengths with level walking, versus shorter steps that you have with inclines or steep descents, so tends to overstate the distance when hiking mountains.

See weakness above. Pedometer is very accurate on level surfaces, but tends to overstate distances when hikes involve mountains, as the shorter steps needed to climb or descend, are read by the device as being longer strides as though you were on a level surface. To compensate, you would have to readjust your stride length on the pedometer every time your hike changed to a steep or even moderate ascent or descent, and then readjust again when you return to a level portion.
Overall, it is better than anything we have.

Digital Pedometer Model HJ-112

Strengths: It is easy to configure.

Weakness: It doesn't always work (counting steps) even though I use it in the same way everyday (placement location). It says it won't count stair steps; sometimes it does, and sometimes it doesn't.

This pedometer sounds better than it is. If you are serious about counting your steps, don't count on this one. It doesn't accurately work all the time.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112)

Strengths: Easy to read digital display. Easy to use buttons. Large, but did not get in the way of my running.

Weakness: Woefully inaccurate distance measurements while jogging or walking. Inability to adjust stride measurement to accurately reflect distance jogged.

I purchased the Omron Digital Pedometer HJ-112 because it was highly rated as an accurate pedometer for running. The distance measurement (which I care about) was consistently inaccurate. I spoke with a rep about the stride issue and the problems with the measurements.I used a 1/4 mi. track at a local private school to repeatedly reset the stride for accuracy, with no success. On July 6, I wore 2 pedometers: my newly repaired Accusplit Eagle 180 (used for 2.5 yrs.)and the Omron, resetting both to "0.00", and running on a measured trail I know well (around a golf course). There was a wide disparity in measurement reporting: Accusplit: 3.77 mi.; Omron: 4.28 mi). The Accusplit is much closer to the true distance. I am returning the Omron for a refund.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112.

Strengths: Love the 7 day recorded info for the ones that like to keep track. Also love the ability to not only just clip it to your jeans but can slip it in your pocket and is still accurate. Strap is nice too.

Weakness: None really, if any thing it is a bit larger than alot of the other brand pedometer on the market, but really doesn't make that much difference with the performance.

Simply love this product. Seems to be very accurate and is not really that hard to setup and start using. It seemed to me a bit pricey, but after trying it for a while, made it worth it to me. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good reliable pedometer.

Very convenient - but misses aerobic steps of...

Strengths: Very convenient; memory keeps track of prior 7 days; tracks regular steps, aerobic steps, KCal, and miles

Weakness: Fails to capture aerobic steps of walks less than 10 minutes

Overall, I am very pleased with it.

But it definitely does NOT capture many aerobic steps. In particular, the manual says that it will capture steps as aerobic if more than 60 steps a minute are taken OR if there is 10 minutes or more of continuous walking. In fact, if I walk or even run for say 5 minutes at well over 60 steps a minute, it fails to count those steps as aerobic, despite what the manual says.

It's OK

Strengths: well-made

Weakness: no lights to see pedometer at night

It appears to be well-made. It didn't work if your pocket is snug.
I'm not happy that it doesn't have any lights to see the product when you are walking in the dark in the early morning or evening.

pedometer rating

Strengths: accurate

Weakness: large size. programming not user friendly initially.

Could be smaller. More user friendly programming instructions needed. I finally just worked with it until I got comfortable with it. Seems accurate. Top angle review of results needed so no need to take it off. Overall I am pleased.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Capability to check previous seven days. I like being able to check my previous day's steps any time plus it automatically resets to zero each day.

Weakness: The belt clip slips off easily. When ever I bend over the belt clips slips off and sometimes it just rides up on the leather belt. It should have a tighter grip.

I really like this pedometer. It's great checking the steps by total mileage or steps. I like also being able to view how many of the steps were at a faster rate than walking by looking at the "aerobic" mode step count. Be sure to use the clip that comes with this pedometer. I wish the pedometer clip had a tighter spring or a lip on the end to prevent it from coming off a waistband. Several times I've noticed that it slipped off my belt and I would have lost it if I had not also kept it clipped it to my pants. It also keeps accurate count just by being placed in my pocket so you can put it in a pocket instead of clipping it on a waistband. Even if I do lose it though, I would buy this same one!

Works from pocket or purse

Strengths: The only pedometer I know of that works accurately when kept in pocket

Weakness: None

I've tried several pedometers before. All of them had to be clipped onto the belt or an edge of clothing. Occasionally they would fall off or the clip would break from the constant pressure. With the Omron, the worry and nuisance is gone. I must put it into my pants or shirt pocket first thing in the morning and leave it there until I go to bed at night. I love that feature the most with the 7 day memory coming in a close second. It has totally changed my life and my new awareness of staying active everyday. My commitment to recording 10,000 steps or more a day has resulted in much improved health and weight.

Five stars - no doubt

Strengths: Super accurate, great options (ordinary vs. aerobic steps), super design

Weakness: A little bit pricey

This is a five star product!
I got this pedometer few days ago and I attached a clip in just few seconds. It's not that confusing at all (just watch the drawing and you see all).
- Great accuracy: I tried it by counting my steps and comparing with what was displayed: it is about 2% over.
- Greatest thing: I do my warm-up ("regular steps") and when I start with my workouts (aerobic steps), I don't need to reset the counter as with my previous pedometers. Aerobic steps - it's a separate counter. Wow!
- The design is also very nice. Not that big as some said, very easy to setup, memory function is so good (look back for 1 week to see how you did).
I put it in my pocket - and no difference in counting compared to the belt position.
The strap is also great - my previous podometers just felt down and ... bye-bye.
This one, if ever slip, is attached by a strap , so - no problem at all.
Although it is pricey, it is worth every penny I paid. So far, it is THE BEST PEDOMETER I ever had.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: This pedometer seems to be completely accurate in its count. The 7-day memory is great, as are the different modes (distance, steps, kcal burned, aerobic steps) and it's very convenient to carry.

Weakness: Appearance-wise, it's not quite as trendy as others on the market, and with the holster, may be somewhat bulkier.

I was hesitant to spend the extra money for this pedometer when I could have purchased a decent one for less. However, I am VERY happy with this product. It comes with a 1-year warranty, operates on an inexpensive watch battery, and has every feature that a good pedometer should. Five stars!

Excellent Pedometer - Omron Digital HJ-112

Strengths: Very accurate (steps counting, aerobic steps, time spent in aerobic walking, mileage, etc.) It also resets itself at midnight. Keeps a 7 day history. User friendly.

Weakness: Minor: would prefer unit's oval shape was mounted in the case horizontally rather than vertically. It would fit better at the waist.

This pedometer has been reliable, accurate and easy to use. Three other members of my family have found this unit to be exceptional as well. Because the oval unit is mounted vertically in its case, the main clip that secures the pedometer to your belt sometimes works free and could result in loss of the pedometer, but the secondary clip has been extremely important in preventing loss.

I would purchase this unit again and have recommended it to many others.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Ease of use. Ability to record steps, miles, and aerobic steps. (I don't care about the calories burned readout.)

Weakness: Concerned that the expected battery life is only 6 months. This seems like a short life for a rather large "button" battery. A smaller size pedometer would be even better.

This pedometer is not the cheapest but that is OK because It Works Great. A previous one I owned did not always record your steps. One nice feature is that you don't have to "zero out" the recordings to start recording fresh each morning, the thing automatically resets itself each day, and it stores the data for seven days. You can wear it several ways, my favorite is to drop it in a shirt pocket and clip it onto the edge of the pocket with a nifty safety strap. This is not as noticable as using the belt clip.

Love it!

Strengths: Accuracy, Durability

Weakness: Large

I've tried many pedometers mostly made by SportLine and this one has been the best by far. I use my pedometer all the time and I was very upset when I accidentally left the pedometer in my pocket (yes, it accurately measures steps when in the pocket) and threw my pants in the wash. I found the pedometer in the spin cycle and went to work trying to get it to work. I was able to take the water out of the pedometer by using a blow dryer. Afer letting it dry out and intermittently putting the battery back, I finally got it going again! Like I said, this product has been great and now the durability has been tested as well!

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Made of high quality and is very accurate. Very easy to set up and start using.

I had read many reviews looking for a good pedometer and this one had only good reviews. It definitely is well made and very accurate. I love the fact that it has a 7 day memory so you can see your improvements each day and it encourages you to get more exercise. It's great that you can determine regular walking steps from aerobic exercise too. And I love the fact that it counts calories burned. I would recommend this pedometer to anyone looking for the best. Also, it counts the distances in miles and has a clock. It's great!

Good choice for a pedometer

Strengths: easy to program, accurate, small & light and easy to carry, works either clipped on to clothing or in a pocket or purse, digital read out is easy to read

This is a good value - it's easy to use and seems to be pretty accurate. I have tried other pedometers and had trouble getting my stride properly calibrated but this one was accurate the first time. I like the fact that it tracks steps taken, aerobic steps taken, distance walked, calories burned and that it stores the data for the past seven days. The only thing I don't like is that the unit does not record steps until you have been walking for at least four seconds. Since I always walk at a very fast pace, I often walk 10 or more steps within the first four seconds and if I only walk for a few seconds, those steps don't always get counted in the total. However, for most people who walk at a slower pace, I don't think this would be a problem.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Gives the wearer a lot of information.

Weakness: Instructions for attaching the clip are confusing.

I gave an Omron HJ-112 pedometer to my mother for her 68th birthday. She is a technophile and has little difficulty with gadgets. She loves the fact that this pedometer shows the mileage, the number of steps taken, how many of those were aerobic steps, and the number of calories burned. The meter is well-made, easy to read, and easy to wear. The biggest drawback, she said, are the absolutely awful instructions for attaching the clip to the meter. She found that process to be extremely confusing, cumbersome, and more complicated than it needed to be. If that one aspect of this meter were improved, the meter would easily garner "five stars" from this reviewer!

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Easy to set up. Very accurate. Clean lines.

Weakness: None, so far.

I had done my share of 'research' regarding Pedometers. I wanted one that was both accurate yet affordable. Every review I read about the OMRON HJ-112 Premium Pedometer seemed to have glowing remarks. After careful consideration, I decided to purchase one online and give it a try. I had tried a couple of cheaper Pedometers in the past, and was left somewhat unfulfilled with their results(If you've purchased others, then you KNOW what I mean). The OMRON HJ-112 has changed my mind about Pedometers and I find that it does EVERYTHING that I want it to do! I couldn't be happier with my purchase. Try one and you'll see what I mean...You WON'T be sorry you did.

great pedometer

Strengths: ease of use, nice appearance

This pedometer is very well designed and designed with a non-technical person in mind. It does everything you'd want without you having to do a thing. It keeps track of steps, aerobic steps, miles, and calories burned. It also has a clock in it so I don't have to carry my watch. And it has a memory where it stores the previous 7 days of data. I highly recommend this pedometer.

Strengths: Easy to set up and use. Safety line a boon. Multi-day feature is surprisingly very useful.

Weakness: None.

After wasting money on two other pedometers, this one has proved to be worth every penny (and combining the two prior deviced I bought, it would have been cheaper to buy this first). Well thought out, good retaining devices, works flawlessly.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Very easy to set up. Gives accurate information. Great fun to use.

Weakness: Have not discovered any thus far.

I am very pleased with the Omron Pedometer HJ-112. This model was very simple to set up and seems to be quite accurate. The read outs are clear and easy to understand. I've used it for many days and in many different situations and have not found any negative qualities. I would recommend this model to anyone who wants a high quality device. It is worth the price.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Mode button allows you to view miles, total steps, aerobic steps - that's a very nice feature. Resets automatically each day.

Weakness: None

This is a great pedometer. A definite improvement over the mechanical pedometer I had previously. The attachment clip is large enough to keep it from falling off your waist, and the safety keeper works great if you do accidentally dislodge the pedometer from your waistband.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Clips easily to belt and pocket.

Weakness: Buttons are sensitive to touch and mode changes easily when touched.

Nice product. The directions are easy to follow. Once I set it, I put it on and forgot about it. I did find, however, when I removed it from my belt, that I would inadvertently hit the mode button and change the mode. This was a little confusing to me until I realized what I had done. Very easy to change the mode back to where it had been set.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Very accurate and consistent for the price. Light and compact.

Weakness: Slightly pricer than other brands, but well worth it.

I have purchased pedometers in the past and have been very disappointed with their performance, so much so, that I gave up on trying to even use one. When I saw Consumer Reports evaluation on pedometers, I decided to give them another try. I have been very happy with the Omron HJ-112 and pleasantly surprised with its performance. It appears to be accurate. I have tested it on my known-distance running route multiple times and the reading appears to be accurate within a tenth of a mile. Some of the inaccuracy in distance "traveled" is probably due to the inconsistency in my stride length and my ability to accurately measure my stride length. One thing is certain, this pedometer is very consistent. If I run the same path, it gives me the same distance travelled within +/-.1 miles. This is much more consistent than any other pedometer I have used. My average run is 3+ miles long (less than 3% error).

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: It is very accurate, lightweight, and versatile.

Weakness: None.

I have tried other Pedometers and they have never been accurate. The HJ-112 records every step. I like the fact that it also records aerobic steps, calories burned, and miles traveled. I like having it keep 7 days worth of information so I can see how I have done over the past week. I thought that the safety cord was overkill but it has kept it from falling off a number of times. It isn't cheap but it doesn't perform like a cheap Pedometer either.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Seems to be VERY accurate, well-made, lots of extras (7-day record, calories, aerobic steps, time, etc.) and easy to wear - LOVE THE extra CLIP!

Weakness: None so far - except (like all I've tried) if you have a 'roll' around your middle, and wear it in front, it have change direction and not work properly - wear in in the back of my outfit.

I have tried a couple of other pedometers, they weren't recording correctly - I walk a treadmill and counted along with other pedometer recorded steps. Omron has made a great product - it works correctly! I love that it takes into count my stride and gives me various counts. Thanks!

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Easy to set, multiple features include miles traveled, calories burned, steps taken, aerobic miles traveled, and time.

Weakness: I have not found any.

I have been using this product for the last two days. This is my first pedometer. I like the sleek design and the ease of operation. It's easy to carry on my person either in a pocket or clipped onto my waistband. The readout is fairly large which is another plus. I can switch modes with the push of a button to quickly check not only the miles traveled, but also the estimated calories burned and how much of the distance traveled would be considered to be aerobic exercise. The device resets itself during the night, so it is ready to go the following day. The time also appears on the LCD display. The product does what it says it will do. I consider it to be a good purchase.

Highly Recommend

Strengths: Works well, nice features.

Weakness: None.

This pedometer works quite nicely, and I would say is worth the money. I've tried a cheaper pedometer with did not work at all, so I thought I'd get one with a good review. This certainly lived up to expectations. The features are nice, especially the clock which resets everything at midnight automatically stores the information for the past week. I also like how it automatically stores aerobic steps. The safety clip is very handy to keep it on as well. There is no reason I would not recommend purchasing this product.

I might buy a second one just to have a spare!

Strengths: Seperate aerobic step and duration register, 7-day memory for all modes but duration of aerobic workout, great accuracy!

Weakness: Holster could be made a bit more sturdy or changed from spring clip (like clothespin) to rigid clip (like rigid money clip). But this is a minor gripe

This is the first pedometer I've bought and unless there are MAJOR advancements, it will be the next pedometer I buy too! The display is large and easy to read, the multi-mode counter (steps, aerobic steps, duration of aerobic workout, calories burned, and distance) are all very nice but I don't lend much credence to the caloried burned estimate. All pedometers use similar formulas to estimate calories burned and all are just ballpark estimates. If you intend to use a pedometer to figure out how far to walk to burn off a Whopper, save yourself some grief and just skip the Whopper (skip the Whopper anyway).

This pedometer is exceptionally accurate in counting steps. If you test it by counting your steps and comparing it to the pedometer and you get a vastly different number, you're either wearing it in the wrong location, or you're counting steps that the manual says it is designed not to count. Follow the manual and if need be, experiment with where to place it on your belt/waistband.

If Omron ever put me on a focus group to design a new pedometer or improve this one, here's what I'd tell them.

1. Change the shape to rectangular with a low height to minimize the likelihood of bumping it off when you bend at the waist. Alternatively, change the clip so that the entire pedometer sits below the waistline (rather than straddling it). Or, change the clip to a rigid clip rather than a spring clip. Or, change the holder to swivel on the clip so that it can be rotated so that when it sits on your waist, it is longer than it is high (the internal mechanism will still operate correctly in this position according to the manual. I'm sure the Omron bumps off the waist more frequently than the "matchbox" shaped pedometers, but the accuracy makes this inconvenience hardly a deal breaker.

2. Allow the user to set the steps/minute minimum for aerobic steps. It's currently fixed at 60 steps per minute. I walk between 124-136 steps per minute during my aerobic walk and at times 60 steps per minute during my normal walking, though I don't want my walk to a downtown restaurant for lunch to be thrown in with my aerobic register. Perhaps allowing the user to set the aerobic threshold from 60-130 steps per minute in 5-steps/minute increments would be appropriate.

3. Redesign case to allow for display of current mode on TOP of case so that it can be read by user without removing pedometer. This would be helpful during the aerobic workout when the user is closely monitoring a specific target (such as aerobic steps).

4. Add a memory register for aerobic distance to be tracked seperately from total distance just as aerobic steps are recorded seperately from total steps.

5. Add a memory register to track 7-days of duration of aerobic walking. The portion of the display where this is normally shown is replaced with "Day 1, Day 2" for previous days' data.

6. Add a data port to download pedometer data to PC.

7. Change thether to thin, high-tensile strength cord. The "shoelace" weight cord detracts from my business attire when I wear pedometer at work. Love the tether's clip, though!

Readers, please don't interpret my suggestions for improvement as weaknesses. This is a fine product that worth every penny I spend for it and more (though I got it for under $28 delivered from a nationally known retailers web site). The fact that I can think of so many ways to improve it just tells you how much I've thought about this product current features and how I could find a use for so many more.

Through a 10,000 step program and off and on dieting, I've lost 40 pounds and lowered my cholesterol 50 points in four months. This product has made my walking program fun to track and I have confidence in my walking log because of the accuracy of this instrument.

Sorry this was so long.

Omron Digital Pedmoter-Model HJ-112

Strengths: It is very accurate. I love that I can put it in my pants pocket.

Weakness: None

I gave this meter a test by wearing it while I walked on my treadmil. It was as accurate as the treadmil. They both had the same milage, time, calories burned, aerobic steps and regular steps. I recommend this product to anyone interested in this information. The price is in everyone's budget. I have had very expensive meters years ago when I was a runner and they were not as accurate as this meter.

Strengths: easy to use, easy to wear

Weakness: none that I have noted

I enjoy walking, my wife has used a less expensive pedometer and it has not been accurate. The Omron is easy to use and very accurate. It even tells me how many calories I burned, which is a nice motivator. Now my wife is wanting one too.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: So much info & still simple to use!

Weakness: Memory doesn't show aerobic step & calorie info

The Omron HJ-112 has an abundance of information, but is still very easy to set up, learn, and use. It can very conveniently be attached to belt or pants, or be put in a bag or pocket and still be accurate.

It nicely avoids false counts of non-step movements, something I've found annoying in past pedometers.

I appreciate the count of aerobic steps, as well as a timer, so I can separately evaluate my brisk walk workouts.

The holder is like a cell phone clip from which you can easily remove the pedometer when viewing its monitor.

The only thing I've found annoying (and it's a small thing) is that when I forget to look at the info beyond basic steps (aerobic steps and timing, calorie use, and mileage) until after midnight, the unit switches to a new day, and the added info is no longer available.

I highly recommend this pedometer.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: It is very accurate counting steps. The memory stores all information for a rolling week, so you can check and see how you have done over several days. I also like the aerobic timer/counter.

Weakness: I tend to accidentally knock it off my hip sometimes during my work day. However, I also do this with anything else that I clip to my belt.

This little contraption was purchased for me by my wife, unknown to me. She gave it to me and I was a little skeptical at first, but I have kept active and started back running and kept to it. I think it is a good tool to get you back into the habit, or should I say lifestyle of keeping active and exercising daily. When you take this pedometer off at the end of the day, you can see if you have been active enough or not. Amazing to me, was finding out that some of my yard work days were my highest days. More so, than even my running days. No wonder yard work is so tiring! It seems to be a good product so far.

Strengths: This pedometer is easy to programand fun to use. It is amazingly accurate.

Weakness: No obvious weaknesses.

This pedometer is very easy to set up and fun to use. I have found it to be amazingly accurate. The safety clip is nice to have as the pedometer had unknowingly come unclipped during my walks a few times and the safety clip saved me from losing it. A very good product and is what you want in a pedometer/

Omron Digital Pedometer Model HJ-112

Strengths: - Cool design - Big digital display

Weakness: - No alarm - No light

The Omron Digital Pedometer Model HJ-112 gives a close estimate of distance, but is not as accurate as I would have liked. It's functions include gaging the amount of steps taken, the amount of aerobic steps taken (continuous steps), calories burned, and miles traveled. Before it can do so, the user must input their weight and stride. This is where the Omron runs into some accuracy issues. It cannot tell the difference between a walking stride and a running stride, which in my experience is the difference of about a foot or so. Therefore, those who mix running and walking long distances will not get a precise reading. To name a couple of the Omron's strengths, its cool design is among the best of pedometers in its price-range and it offers a large digital display making it easy to read while on the go. The features that I would have liked the Omron to have are an alarm system and light. I won't go into much detail, but I am currently training for a marathon and both items would be of tremendous use. In the final analysis, I would recommend the Omron to those who run or walk only. For those who would prefer a more accurate device I would suggest a pedometer with GPS tracking.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Flexability and accuracy.

Weakness: Memory reset.

The pedometer can be clipped to the belt or cloths or placed in your watchpocket. Either way, it is very accurate.
Resetting memory can be a bit confusing due to the delay in clearing of memory. Great pedometer overall. The best one I have tried and recommend it highly.

Weakness: One problem is it counts steps while driving. Quite a few actually. Anyone else have that problem or suggestions on how to keep that from happening?

Great Size, Great Price... But Not 100% Accurate

Strengths: size, price, user friendly

Weakness: not 100% accurate

I LOVE this item! It has encouraged me to get out there and walk more! I definitely recommend getting a pedometer for every day use!!

My only "complaint" is that it is not 100% accurate. I went and walked a pre-marked trail at a nearby park, and when I walked the trail from start to finish, and completed the 2.45 mile walk, I checked my pedometer to see how close it was to the actual mileage. This pedometer had clocked me at only walking 1.95 miles.

So even though it is not 100% accurate, I still enjoy using my pedometer daily, because it gives me a ballpark of my steps walked and that is encouraging :)

Strengths: Very accurate. Big display numbers. Easy to program.

Weakness: Clip on is weak and snaps off easily.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Very simple to program and use

Weakness: Step count is off

I use it on 3 to 5 mile walks every day. It has never given me the right distance traveled. I assume that since all data generated by the pedometer is based on step count, I am not getting the right number of steps, aerobic steps, or calories burned either.

For me this is easily correctable by using a spreadsheet. Using route data from GPS software (if you don't own a GPS, use a free map site like mappoint.msn.com...), I program in a route and I get the distance to the nearest 0.01 miles. From there I make a simple ratio between GPS distance and pedometer distance and apply that to steps, aerobic steps, and calories burned. After this calculation, the numbers make a lot more sense.

I find it odd that this unit is one of the highest rated pedometers available, but a 2.75 mile walk which should consist of about 6500 steps (for my stride length), the unit can be off by over a thousand steps. The only saving grace is that it is wrong in such a consistent manner and by using a little math I can get much better data.

Hey, do your think you might just change the length of your stride?

Reply by member: sledge454
Jan 1, 2005

jtrevor,

I thought about that but it won't make sense because all my step counts are too low (never high). Lets assume my step count is 100% accurate. In order to get the right distance traveled, I'd have to increase my stride length by about 20% to 32.5". Walking with a 32.5" stride length is physically difficult to do at all, let alone walk at 4+ mph. So since I can't be walking with that stride, changing my stride length is at best a guess with nothing to explain why it would be a good solution.

Sincerely,
Sledge454

Couldn't make the pedometer work

Strengths: I was unable to make the pedometer work, thus discovered no strengths

Weakness: The directions included with the pedometer had no relationship to what actually happened when they were followed.

I was very disappointed at the discrepancy between the directions and the actual operation (or lack of same) of the pedometer. The company was very courteous about assisting me with the return and a credit (minus shipping) was quickly given to my American Express account.

Is it just me?

Strengths: Reliable, accurate, comfortable, well-made

Weakness: Why doesn't it shut off when not in use?

Is it just me? I was psyched about this pedometer! And it has great reviews and everything works great...until I realized that I can't turn it off and it doesn't automatically shut off when not in use. And my battery ran down and died. When I take it off at night, shouldn't there be an off switch? I can't find one, so am I just not smart enough to work this? (Yes, I looked in the instructions.) I appreciate that it can keep track for the whole week for me and keep some statistical information but if I have to buy a new little special battery constantly I'm not going to use it long term. What a waste!

Review the product (Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112)...

Strengths: loved all of the features except the clip

Weakness: The clip is not secure enough

I lost my pedometer on my first trip out with it because it fell off without me feeling it. Putting it on the string around my neck would bother me as it bounced. I've seen clip on ones that have a more secure string attachment as well to use as a safety tie in addition to the clip and I would suggest they add this feature. The pedometer is expensive enough that I could not afford to replace it with another of the same brand.

Strengths: Easy to use; can be clipped on anywhere, not just at waistband; numbers are large and easy to see

Weakness: None so far

I am mechanically challenged, but this pedometer was very easy to program. It resets itself every day, and the buttons are easy to manipulate to change the mode. I've tried a lot of pedometers and tossed them because they didn't work very well, but this has been great.

Does What It Is Supposed to Do

Strengths: Went on a measured 4.1 mile walk. It registered 4.1 mile after a carefully setting my stride.

Weakness: The explanation of calibrating it to one's correct stride and the concept of kcal was a bit confusing.

The first one we had actually broke during a vacation with a lot of walking in Southern France. The belt clip came undone and it was dangling for who knows how long by the "safety strap" as we walked through medieval villages. We will accept some responsibility for not noticing. Who knows what it banged into.

We liked it so much we did buy another upon our return. Because it did break, however, we are limiting our rating to 4 stars.

Digital Pedometer Model HJ-112: stop looking for any...

Strengths: Very easy to set up. I like the safety strap that comes with it. Also I like the seven day memory. Very sharp looking and works almost at any angle. It is a great motivator in raising my activity.

Weakness: Don't wear it when riding a lawn tractor or quad runner as the bumping motion will record steps. The instructions do address this issue. I have not noted any weaknesses yet.

For people that are interested in pedomitors this is the one, hands down. I call it my personal motivation device. It is instrumental in raising my activity level on a daily basis. I wear it on my belt and in my pocket and it still records accuratley. Be sure to shop around as the price for this thing is all over the place.

Strengths: Very easy to set up and use, clear, easy-to-read display, contains all the information you need, includes multiple days of stored info. Has multiple clips to prevent it from falling off.

Weakness: None.

I very much like this product -- well worth the money. One of its best features is how flexible it is to use with all different sorts of clothing -- you can stick it in a pocket, clip it to a belt or collar, put it in a bag you're carrying, etc. etc. -- which really expands its usability.

Omron Pedometer

Strengths: Easy to use, resets automatically every night

Weakness: None that I've found

I have had several pedometers in the past and none of them worked correctly. This one was easy to set up and keeps a pretty accurate count of my steps. I like the automatic reset of your daily steps feature. It also keeps your last seven days walking history if you want to look back at how far you went. The best Pedometer out there!

Strengths: Keeps accurate count, automatically knows aerobic steps, automatically resets at midnight but stores 7 days of info. No annoying sounds!

Weakness: Its slightly bulky and my son always sees it and tries to push all the buttons.

Awesome product! Love it! Great for all day wear! Has a safety cord, which is great because it falls out of my pocket a lot. Easy to read, tells you the approximate calories you've burned and automatically knows when you've been doing something aerobic. It counts aerobic steps separately and times them too!

Omron Pedometer HJ-112 - pretty good for it's price

Strengths: accuracy, easy to use, safety holder prevents pedometor from falling off/ getting lost

Weakness: 7 days memory, but no "total" for a week or several days. Plastic, spring-loaded belt clipper is a bit oversized and is not strong enough. Fortunately, there is a nice safety-string attached. Backligh

This pedometer, though pretty basic, is highly accurate and convenient to use. It has a nice safety string to prevent loss (my previous one, though is a bit fancier, got lost within a week, because belt clipper system is not the strongest one). This pedometer can fall off the belt pretty easy too - it's belt clipper spring is even weaker then on the other pedometers I've used, however it has an excellent safety string holder. Plus, this one also is so sensitive and accurate - it can work in the pocket, attached to a sleeve pocket or other places, as long as it's in a proper vertical position. It could've used screen back light for night viewing and a "total" function in addition to it's 7 days memory of steps. Aerobic steps feature is a bit annoying. I believe, you spend calories as long as you move. We even spend calories when we don't move! At our sleep. So, we spend even more when we walk, no matter speed or length of the time. But aerobic steps is something else. I don't know if pedometer uses different scale for counting calories used for aerobic steps, because if it doesn't - I don't see much use in this feature, except for annoyance - say, I've walked all over Venice, admiring churches, stopping in museums and spending an hour here or there, wondering through cultural reaches. Total number of steps for the day was well over 25,000, but aerobic steps barely reached 8,000 - was it because too many stops for longer then a minute? Or because not enough speed? If it's # 1, then the number of calories will be definitely wrong, if it's #2, then it's probably close to reality. IMHO, aerobic steps is a bit "overdoing" it, function that most of us can live without, on the other hand, it's yet another motivational tool - to get your 10,000 steps a day on the aerobic side, vs "just steps made".

Weakness: If using harness/belt-clip...falls out easily. But, there is a lanyard with a clip to hook on your clothing, so this is really minor.

Very happy with this pedometer. I lost my first one and am replacing it with the same model. Reccommended it to a friend and she replaced her more expensive one with it

Anita

Strengths: Lightweight. Lanyard keeps it on.

Weakness: Resets for no apparent reason.

On the rare day it does not happen to reset I log 3000 steps easily. Then sometimes around 3:00pm, almost at the end of the day, I check it and I've got 90 steps. I'm giving up on this thing. My tummy does not hang over it (heaven forbid) or I'd think it was me!

Omron Digital Pedometer

Strengths: It shows the total calories burned, plus the original daily steps & the aerobic steps you have done. It also shows the total miles you have walked.

Weakness: So far, I don't know of any weaknesses.

I enjoy having this pedometer because I believe it is very accurate and I enjoy using it for my diet. I am actually on weight watchers and it helps me to know the steps I take each day, because I can them make sure I take more steps the next day. It helps me to know I am walking more and more every day.

Omron Digital Pedometer

Strengths: Great product; works exactly as stated

Weakness: None

Great product. I was disappointed with another companies' product. This pedometer works exactly as promised. I would definitely recommend and purchase again. It's wonderful to be able to calculate exactly how far I walk.

Great pedometer

Strengths: Accuracy, 7 Day Memory, Ruggedness, features

Weakness: None that I know of!

This one is a great product. Its pretty accurate. It also counts aerobic steps apart from usual steps. So you will know your aerobic steps. I am not sure if the calorie counter and the mile counter are accurate. Because they depend on your input. So you need to take them with a pinch of salt. Its very rugged. You can simply pin the thing to your pocket and it counts. Noise-free. I would recommend the product enthusiastically.

Digital Pedometer

Strengths: Quiet/various modes/can review past days up to a week

Weakness: The pedometer slides off sometimes when very active.

It is quiet compared to other pedometers, and fairly accurate as far as I can tell. It would be nice if it had a belt loop option, so it wouldn't slide off so much.

Best choice

Strengths: Accurate, easy to use in shirt pocket or on belt.

Weakness: None. Really!

Tried three others that could only be clipped on belt. We bought two of one brand so my wife could use it also and had wildly different step counts, even after swapping pedometers. The Omron HJ-112 is easy to set up, easy to use and is accurate when compared to a treadmill (wintertime in Alaska). I've encouraged two co-workers to purchase this model as a motivator for their walking programs. Oh, I also got another one for my wife. Less expensive on Amazon.com. I do 12-13K steps a day and this keeps me motivated to continue - haven't lost much weight, but dropped 4" and two pant sizes.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Ease of set up, and accuracy.

Weakness: None.

I have owned several other pedometers, and this one was by far the easiest to set up. And so far, it's accuracy has been exceptional. I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to count steps or miles.

Omron Digital Redometer

Strengths: Variety of options or modes, ie. steps, calories, mileage. Easy to read.

Weakness: None that I know so far.

I have not compared this product to any others so cannot make a comparison. I have enjoyed using this pedometer so far and would certainly buy it again. It is easy to read and clips very comfortably to waist band or where ever desired.

Pedometer review

Strengths: Versitile and accurate.

Weakness: Concerned about the face of the pedometer not having a cover to protect it.

I have been using a cheaper model for the last year. I like this device much better. I especially like the memory mode. It gives me the ability to see the results for the last week.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Works extremely well

Weakness: none

Glad I bought this product, works very well. But use the attached string by looping it through your belt loop, I have had it fall off my belt a couple of times and don't have to worry about loosing it when attached to my belt loop.

Great Pedometer

Strengths: Works great. Doesn't fall off. Is quiet and accurate. Not bulky. I love it.

Weakness: Would be nice to have a cover. A little bit big, but it is thin enough that it doesn't really matter

I've been using it daily and it works great. I like that I don't have to reset it every day. It is accurate and comfortable. The last pedometer I had fell off so many times and had been welded together so many times that it finally died. This one has not fallen off at all with the convenient clip. I love it and recommend it highly.

Fulfilled all expectations

Strengths: The Omron pedometer HJ112 was very easy to set up with my personal information. Retrieving the information is also no problem. It seems to be quite accurate when wearing it attached to my person.

Weakness: It is not as accurate when you are carrying it in your purse or pocket.

I like this digital pedometer and would purchase it again. I have had ones that make noise when they are recording which I found to be embarrassing. The holder for the Omron is a little bulky under clothing especially since I wear this attached to my bra.

Suggest - Omron's simple didgital pedometer

Strengths: Purchased for my 76 yr old Mother. I used it first for a week and it was the 3rd on I had boughten for her. It was the most simple yet accurate one I found. Also, it is easy to read the numbers.

Weakness: We haven't found any yet.

It is perfect for an elderly person who wants to keep track of their steps and calories burned. It is also simple enough for a non-technical person to figure out and use!

Omron Digital Pedometer - The Best!

Strengths: Very good clip and "emergency" cord, information not erased if you accidentally push on it when you are wearing which is great. I really like the history function, it is very easy to read & set-up.

Weakness: None.

This is the best pedometer that I have ever owned. One of the most frustrating things with my previous pedometers would be when I would be wearing it and push against it, and erase all the information for the day! Great history function, aerobic steps, calories burned along with total steps. I would highly recommend it to anyone!

Pedometer

Strengths: counts even in a pocket or bag

Weakness: none

This is a very nice pedometer. I have never owned one. I like the fact that it breaks out aerobic steps and counts how long you were walking. Would recommend to anyone who is looking for a pedometer.

Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Multiple features. Counts regular & aerobic steps separate. Gives total aerobic time & calories separate.

Weakness: Getting your stride dialed in.Making sure it is the right orientation to function properly. Clip could be a little more agressive to keep it from falling off. These are slight weaknesses not big.

Seems to be a great tool and nice addition to the Omron model HEM-711ACN blood pressure monitor I bought to help monitor my health and workouts. I never realized how much I was getting around at work during the normal course of a day.

Omron Digital Pedometer

Strengths: Does not "accidentally" turn off or reset itself. Very accurate. Easily fits in a pocket.

Weakness: A little large to clip on a waistband, however, I have worn it that way while doing the Curves work out.

I like the memory feature. It will remember seven days of data. It also is a watch, which is a handy feature as well. It seems to be very accurate and does not make any noise. My old one "clicked" as it counted. It automatically resets itself to zero at midnight.

Review Omron Digital Pedometer-Model HJ-112

Strengths: Clip on cord to prevent loss. 7 day memory count.

Weakness: Walking steps less than same steps when meter placed in pocket

Excellent meter. We have lost several meters because they drop off the waist, etc., clip on is the best feature for us. Easy to use and good information given. Recommend to all.

my motivator

Strengths: Very accurate. Use it daily on my morning walk and it always shows the same distance.

Weakness: I really can't think of a weakness this product has.

Like the fact that it can go into my pocket or be worn on my belt. I suffered a heart attack just a few days before the pedometer arrived at my door. I now use it daily and can rely on it to keep me walking.

The Omron HJ-112 rated high for accuracy by a consumer testing organization. Its design allows it to be worn or to be carried in a pocket or purse.
