Great digital camera--love the pics

Strengths: excellent pics, steady means less motion artifact, tiny

Weakness: needs a different memory stick than other cybershots, motion artifact still there when taking pics at dim or low light

This is my third cybershot DSC camera. I previously owned a P8 and W1, both of which were lost on vacation (by family members). I replaced my old W1 with another W1. When I came across the T9 and the beautiful pics that it produced, I gave my W1 away to a family member who wanted it and purchased T9. So far, I love it. There is significantly less motion or no motion on my pictures. However, in the night mode or in dim-light, some motion is still there.

The camera is small and can fit in small pockets. It takes great pictures and takes pics faster than the W1. The video clips are also very nice with good audio.

I received this camera just 13 hours before my second child was born. It took many beautiful pictures of her. I didn't realize that the camera required a different memory stick than the W1, so I didn't have a memory stick. (It requires a pro duo, not a pro) I was very pleased to find out that the internal memory stick was sufficient to take a boat load of baby pictures. That's convenient!

Overall: I highly recommend this digital camera.

Sony T9

Strengths: Small Compact; Excellent Picture Quality, Scene Mode, Great Battery Life. All Around Good Camera, Hard to Beat Sony!

Weakness: Weak Flash

I love this camera. If you are looking for a digital SLR, rest assured this is not it, go get something comparable to that, but if you are looking for a small, compact, light weight camera that takes excellent point and shoot snapshots...this camera is for you. Keep in mind the target audience for the cameras...this is targeted at point and shoot completely automatic easy to use type audiences....with that in mind it delivers exactly what it is designed to deliver. I also have a Sony high end digital camera to work in conjunction with this one. Love the color saturation of the camera, the ease of use and the ability to put it in my pocket to take along everywhere I go. I love taking pictures, and this camera makes it easy. KUDO's to Sony on another great compact point and shoot!

Sony T9 vs Canon SD450

Strengths: Super steady shot, great LCD display, excellent picture quality.

Weakness: No optical view finder, very weak flash, poor low light capability.

I've had 4 generations of the Canon powershot S**, up to the SD-450, cameras before trying out the Sony T9.
It's the super steady shot that got me interested and that feature has not disappointed. It is GREAT!
Picture quality is as good and maybe even better than on the Canons.
Video is good but not even close to the 60 fps quality of the SD-450.

Low light performance is inferior to the SD-450.

On screen info, including Icons, are too small for anyone normally using reading glasses.

What I can't live with however is the missing optical viewfinder and the weak flash. It's impossible to take a flash picture in nearly dark surroundings when nothing shows up on the screen. That's where a viewfinder is indispensable. Also, the LCD screen requires reading glasses while an optical viewfinder does not.

Nitpicking:
The battery charger is much bigger than the Canon charger.
The all in one adapter cable is a messy, cumbersome spiderweb.
The cable connector on the camera is open and exposed to the elements.
The manual spends too much print on Computer software and not enough on Picture taking.

Bottom line:
I hate to take it back but surely Canon will come out with an image stabilizer soon and still continue with the optical viewfinder while hopefully maintaining the slightly smaller size.

Fabulous camera

Strengths: Large 2.5" screen; ultracompact; light, ease of use; beautiful and crisp images; "Steady-Shot"; slideshow feature

Weakness: Horrible Red-Eye

I have been a big fan of Sony cameras as I have been using the DSC-P71 3.2MP camera for the past 3 years. Now that that camera is starting to feel very bulky, I was looking for an ultracompact camera.

I looked into the Canon SD450/550, Casios, Panasonics, and the various Sonys (N1, T5, T7 and T9). Although, Sonys are more expensive and their Memory Sticks are more expensive as well. The Sony T9 felt the best in my hands. I read various reviews on image quality before making the purchase.

After using it for the past 1.5 months, I am very happy with the purchase. I have taken 400 pictures now and used the movie feature several times. I've used in all sort of conditions, and I am fairly pleased with all the pictures. I haven't really seen a difference with Stead-Shot, but then again, I don't know what it would be like for a ultracompact without SteadyShot to compare.

The large LCD is excellent. The camera slides easily into my pocket (although the cover may open easily). The slide show feature is great, as with the press of a button, a slideshow with music will display on your LCD or on a TV if the appropriate cables are connected.

Unfortunately, the Red Eye with many of the Sony compacts are well described in various reviews. Even with the Red Eye reduction, it doesn't work "that" well.

Overally, I'm very very satisfied with this camera and highly recommend it.

Redeye reduction works well on my T7, F828, and other digital cameras I own, but if you really understand how redeye reduction works, I suggest you turn it off and use ANY photo application and remove it.

Although I own Photoshop CS, believe it or not, AOL does as good a job and certainly does it in a fraction of the time.

Amazing little camera

Strengths: East to use, excellent photo quality, image stabilization feature works beautifully

Weakness: Sliding door opens too easily

I just purchased this, my third Sony cyber shot camera while here in Japan for the holidays, and I am fully impressed and satisfied by it's outstanding performance. The new ISO stabilzation feature allows for greater ease in shooting and with remarkable results. The slideshow feature is fun to use and with the enclosed cables you can easily put together quite a production indeed. The large image screen on the camera itself which is crystal clear, along with the sound makes for a nice credit card size photo montage that will captivate and impress friends. Aside from the sliding door that opens a little too easily when placed in ones pocket, the T-9 is the perfect compact camera for any occasion. I highly reccomend it to anyone.

Another winner for Sony

Strengths: Compact Enhanced slideshow feature, with music Super steadyshot Large LCD

Weakness: Not as compact as the DSC-T7 that I'm replacing, but that isn't really a weakness as much as it is a personal preference.

I'm replacing a DSC-T7 with this T9. I was hesitant to do that. The T7 has been my favorite of the many Sony's and other digital cameras I've owned. I always wear a t-shirt under my shirt, and the T7 disappears between my shirts when worn around my neck. The T9 is a bit thicker, but still compact.

I really was swayed to buy it (even though I love my T7, as mentioned) based on the results I saw from some test shots with the super steadyshot feature turned on. I use my camera for some close up shots for online auction sales, etc. The drawback of these small cameras has always been the inability to hold them perfectly still. That is never more apparent than when taking close up detail shots. The steadyshot feature will be a huge advantage for me.

A Great Pocket Camera

Strengths: Ready to shoot or capture video at a moments notice. Fantastic super macro mode. Nice video in the 640 fine mode. Good Audio - even at the 160 mode. The LCD screen is viewable in direct sun.

Weakness: The mpg video won't work with my Pinnacle9 editing software. The optical quality is very good but not good enough to support a 6 mpxl image.

"That little camera took those videos"? My friend said in amazement - and she didn't even know I was taping her dance presentation. A great camera for secluded photos or videos, catching people being themselves is where this camera shines. The steady shot does help but don't expect it to perform miracles. I take all my photos at the 3 mpx resolution - I really don't see much more photo quality at the 6 mpxl mode. I love the camera and glad I bought it.

DSC-T9 - Compact & great performer

Strengths: Optical Image Stabilizer, small size, great screen

Weakness: Video quality not as good as expected.

Recently bought this camera to replace an old 2 MP camera. I've used it for a few weeks, and am thoroughly impressed. The image stabilization is probably the greatest strength of this camera, as it allows you to take pictures in low light without using the flash. This gives you much richer colors in your picture, as it won't be washed out by the flash. I also really like the screen. I was worried that it wouldn't be usable in direct sunlight, but have found that it is quite easy to see in all lighting conditions. The only negative I can think of is that the quality of the mpg video is not as good as I was expecting -- it is quite grainy. As a still camera, though, it is fantastic.

A great cam for the pocket

Strengths: Picture Quality, Macro-mode, Video-mode, handling, size, "Super SteadyShot", Display and so on...

Weakness: sliding mechanism opens too easily, battery could be a bit stronger (~200 Fotos)

I thought it would be a hard decision for me to chose a new compact camera. In summer I began to look for the new cam but none of the brands of Casio, Fuji, Panasonic, Canon etc could satisfy. Then I heard about the T9 and waited till January and I have to say that it was the right decision. I never had such great cam. It’s just awesome, it makes brilliant pictures, good and long movies (if you have got a 1 Gig card) and I am astonished about the macro mode, which works perfectly (up to 1 cm).
Everywhere I go I take this small “miracle” with me; it’s thin and fits into every suit. But unfortunately the slide mechanism opens too easily, so it can happen that you have low battery when you want to take a picture. But that I accept willingly.

Best 6mp Compact Camera

Strengths: 6M pics, small and stylish, ability to shoot in low light conditions, super-steady shot, Sony’s top-notch build quality, scores a 10 in the must-have factor

Weakness: May be too small for some with fat fingers

A perfect 10 beauty! Sony has mastered the art of industrial design. Looks expensive and extremely high-quality. Menu structure is very intuitive. Controls are well laid out. Fits right into any pockets. Photos taken are as beautiful as the camera. This is the one to take anywhere with you. Must have accessories: minimum 1gb memory stick, extra battery, case.

Size Does Matter

Strengths: Very compact camera with very high quality photos. Multipal burst settings. Internal memory is perfect.

Weakness: My Bat. charger has two large prongs instead of one large one small. Did anyone else have that problem?

The camera is very small and is perfect for spur of the moment pictures. It starts up very fast and takes crystal clear photos. There are settings for every type of weather, and every setting. Also the internal memory is very useful.

I LOVE THIS CAMERA!

Strengths: Everything! I love the LARGE display on the back... much better than your typical 1 inch screen!

Weakness: The flash is a little slow... but that is Sony. All Sony cameras we have ever had are the same.

WONDERFUL camera! I love it love it love it! It's so nice and small. We went to Disneyland last week and I was able to keep this camera in my jeans pocket all day long! With 3 kids, that makes life so much easier! GREAT photos! :)

Best camera ever!!

Strengths: Amazing picture quality (indoors and outdoors), crystal clear images even with shaking due to hand movement, powerful flash, compact, large LCD screen..

Weakness: nothing !

I just purchased this product the other day, and I already know how to use it without any problems. It is very very very easy to use and the quality of the pictures amazes me. The internal flash for indoors comes in handy. You can take amazing pictures inside without causing drama with a flash. If you take pictures with your old camera, and have problems with the pictures coming out shakey.. you will not have that problem anymore with the sony cyer-shot. Trust me.. this camera is easy to use, small yet powerful and the best camera I have ever seen. I would recommend this to anyone!

my sony baby

Strengths: tiny, user friendly interface, longer battery life, image stabilization works like a charm

Weakness: nada....yet

I'm so glad that i sold my Sony P5 and bought this camera with some Sony pts i had :) it's USA version shipped from sonystyle.com( still cant believe it took em 4ever to come out with us version while jap version has been out on the market for so long) It took less time to recharge the battery. one hour later, i was shooting pictures like mad. Shots taken from both indoor and outdoors were excellent. flash turned on by itself when shooting indoor is a nice feature. it also plays music when you use slideshow. overall experience is just WoW. i command you to get ONE !!!

i mean recommend.....

Outstanding Little Camera

Strengths: Size, solid feel, design, image stabilazation feature, internal memory

Weakness: None

I am one who researches gadgets like this for a long time before making the plunge. Unfortunately, I could not find a store (e.g., Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.) with one in stock before buying one given the U.S. model was just released. As such, as many do, I bought sight unseen, relying only on comments from others. Their comments are onpoint as this is one of the best digital cameras I have owned, and I have owned several (albeit most have been Sony). I took it to the office this morning and heard nothing but "oohs" and "ahs" from my colleagues, many of whom indicated their own plans to purchase this little gem.

Sony T9

Strengths: light and handy

Weakness: The battery is expensive.

I like it so much. It is so light I can bring it all the day. I can use it to record my life all the time. The image it took is really high quality. I am curious why other people would choose other items.

Sony DSC-T9 Silver

Strengths: Very small camera, extream brite screen, best i have seen

Weakness: Blurry images if your not careful to keeop the camera still, poor low light performance

I had planned to buy a cannon sd450 or sd550, but when I went in the shop to check them out they were not as nice as the dsc-t9. The t9 is the smallest by far, had the best brightest and sharpest screen of the bunch. The real test is how the images look, and it holds up well on that front.

1)The Canon SD-450 is in fact smaller than the Sony T-9.

2)Blurry images are by far less of a problem on the T-9 than they are on any other camera this size because none of the others have the image stabilizer feature.

You mean YOU'RE, but apparently you did not have the image stabilizer on.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T9

Sony's new Cybershot T9 delivers good pictures great features in a solid package. The T9's 6.0-megapixel CCD delivers good image quality, with good color, and high resolution. Its image sharpness and noise levels aren't quite up to the level of the best full-sized 6.0-megapixel cameras out there, but they're very good for a subcompact model.
