Unbelieveable Saw, Great Price

Strengths: Cuts 2x16@90, 2X12@45

Weakness: Dust Collection

I couldn't justify spending $679.00 on this saw or any saw, as I don't use this tool daily. However with Lowe's having it on sale for $481.10 and Home Depot willing to meet that price AND beat it by another 10% AND include their promotion of another $75.00 off, I got the DW718 for $357.99. Then I noticed that the Ridgid Miter saw stand was 1/2 off at $99.00, so I got that too. This saw is GREAT. Well worth the $679.00 asking price. I just finished my Deck and Crown moldings and before having this saw I just couldn't be bothered. I have several other projects planned which this saw will make alot easier. Before this saw I was using a regular 10" Miter on the floor. I went from a Pinto to a Lincoln. I Highly recommend this saw to anyone. I have read negative reviews on the DW718 from head deflection to bad sliding action and that is simply not true.

As good as the DW708? I think so!

Strengths: Increased cutting angle, depth and width, relatively lightweight, laser line option

Weakness: Dust collection, but show me a compound miter saw that doesn't make a mess!!

I purchased a DW718 to replace a 5 year old DW708 that was stolen. I know I liked the 708, which was working like new after 5 years, and I really like the 718! At first, I was dreading that maybe the horizontal sliding rails wouldn't be as solid as the 708's vertical rails... Wrong! It's just as steady! I also purchased the DW7187 laser system, which once adjusted (which takes some time and patience) works great - no more having to transfer a line that I marked on the "wrong" edge of the board anymore! Another improvement over the 708 is the override for the miter angle detents. Am I glad my 708 was stolen? At first no, but after using the 718 for a few months now, maybe just little! ;)

Best one out there.....

Strengths: Double Bevel; 12" blade

Weakness: none

I used to have a 10" single bevel compound miter saw - not real expensive and it served me well until the 'stops' failed to work (bye bye right angles). Looking for a replacement, decided to upgrade to Dewalt as I've never been disappointed by Dewalt. I was thinking of getting another 10" single bevel but thought better of it after speaking to a handy friend and boy! - was he right! I really bought the saw for molding work around my house and the double bevel has served me well as I don't have to flip the wood around (I have a smaller workspace so that helps!) I like the sliding action too of this one - real smooth. In the spring, I'll be replacing some railroad ties and this blade will have no trouble with that thickness of wood. The price was also fairly unbeatable - prehaps an all time low $559 on Amazon. Compared to the lessor model Dewalts...this one was worth the extra $200 - I'm very satisfied so far!.

For the most part i like this saw

Strengths: easy to use, high back support, pre drilled for crown stops, easy to hold the gaurd up with thumb.

Weakness: you really need a stand with good support as you can see there is not much table to balance your wood on, and the vertical stop is like teflon or something witch has play in it ( at least mine does.

When my older saw (everything) got stolen around a year ago i bought this saw and take very good care of my tools.Unfortunally i had to pay $679.00.But i really like it,EXCEPT Trying to keep it true is really getting on my nerves, i took it to the shop today to get it fixed and they said that they will straiten it under warrenty nice of them but i still have to barrow another saw while waiting for it.
Thats why im on here looking for the very best miter saw,Any suggestions???

DeWalt DW718

The DeWalt DW718 is a heavy-duty 12" double-bevel sliding compound miter saw offered by DeWalt. Powered by a 15 amp, 3,600 rpm motor, this is a durable and powerful saw. Cutting accuracy is aided by an adjustable stainless steel miter detent plate with 10 positive stops and a machined base fence support. Tall sliding fences support 6-1/2" moulding, and slide easily out of the way for bevel cuts....
