Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

I never found Heston's performance lacking. No he doesn't look or talk like one but he does fine with the acting. A nice little film noir picture that has been seen in many different versions due to some not so creative editing. I haven't seen the entire restored version but I have heard it is revealing.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

Next to Citizen Kane this is Orson Welles other great film, but more fun to watch. Welles is spectacular as the corrupt overweight cop. Charles Heston is not convincing as a Mexican narcotics agent but its kind of funny to see him look like one. Janet Leigh is really good as his wife and makes her first encounter to a nervous motel manager(played brilliantly by Dennis Weaver) Joseph Cotten and Marlena Dietrich make amusing cameos. Classic film noir.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

Brilliant, underrated noir film by Welles in which he gives one of the great screen performances as Hank Quinlan, the skilled, but corrupt cop.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

An amazing movie and far, far ahead of its time. Film noir, but the storyline never slows for effect. Brilliantly put together and would probably get more respect if not compared to Welles's other classic Citizen Kane.

How amazing was this movie? To think - it got bad reviews when it came out, as did Psycho...

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

13 a bit too high, I think, even for the version restored using Welles'memo, which I imagine many fans might not appreciate as much as the original release.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

To quote Charleton Heston "TOUCH OF EVIL is unquestionably the greatest B movie ever made." Well, if you don't count PSYCHO as a B movie, then TOUCH OF EVIL is the greatest of all B pictures. This film shows why Orson Welles is a true genius, even in his final years. His acting is absolutely superb here as is Janet Leigh's, but I think that Heston was horribly cast as a Mexican. He didn't look, sound or act like a Mexican. But he gave his best which in the end is good enough, I guess. Great movie.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

This movie has it all, Charlton Heston playing Mexican, Orson Welles bloated, sweaty performance as Hank Quinlan and a gang forcing weed on poor Janet Leigh. It also has that really superb long shot in the beginning that goes on forever. This film is just plain entertaining.

Touch of Evil [DVD Boxset] [50th Anniversary...

One of the most unique and entertaining films on the 1950s. Orson Welles' unorthodox and bizarre film noir deals with controversial subjects like narcotics and corruption. The films works despite Charlton Heston's terrible performance as Mike Vargas, the Mexican (!) narcotics agent who gets mixed up in an investigation into a terrorist bombing. Janet Leigh plays Susan, his American wife, who is resting in a remote hotel until she is terrorized by a Mexican gang. Welles gives a superb performance as respected but corrupt Texas cop Hank Quinlan. Welles' screenplay is based on a previously shelved screenplay, which was based on the pulp novel Badge of Evil (1956), which Welles never read. But the film's success lies mostly in its unique editing, stark lighting and sweeping photography. Set in a U.S./Mexican border town, the film's unique visual style is one that has rarely been seen since its release in 1958.
